Africa Division

  • Ghana (in production)
    The Africa Division is working on the final version of a CBD Training Manual developed under the UNFPA Ghana Project Mass Media Support for Adult Population Education. The manual was developed for training literacy facilitators as CBD workers and will hopefully become the national standard for CBD training in Ghana.
  • Haiti (in production)
    The Africa Division is also developing a set of training materials with the Haitian Institute for Community Health (INHSAC) under the title Happy and Healthy Baby Project. The set includes a 60-day IPC curriculum in French and Creole for community health workers, a board game that engages health workers in the kinds of tasks they do on the job, and a peer educator manual in French and Creole for clinics frequented by adolescents.
  • MAQ Video (in the planning stages)
    Initial work has begun on this project including an in-country investigation of resources and literature review.
  • Post Abortion Care training package (in production)
    A training package on post-abortion care for health care workers who have contact with women undergoing abortion or receiving treatment for complications for abortion.
  • Pourquoi Donc l’Excision/Why Excision** (video) 52 min. In Dioula.
    Produced by Carlyn Saltman and Justin Yao in collaboration with the National Committee Against Excision in Burkina Faso for Dioula speakers in Burkina and surrounding countries. For conference screenings to non-Dioula audiences, a 10 minute synopsis with English subtitles is also available. The video was funded by the Research Action Information Network for Bodily Integrity of Women (RAINBO) and Carlyn Saltman and received in-kind support from JHU/CCP.

Asia Division

  • Bangladesh Generic IPC curriculum (in production)
    This training curriculum was developed with other groups through a consensus-building process, and is being pretested now.
  • Bangladesh Intrauterine Device Training Video** (in Bengali)
    This video is designed to illustrate the key aspects of the clinical and interpersonal skills, techniques and services required for effective service delivery. It will be used with government IUD training curricula. A set of client-provider support materials is also being developed to compliment the video including a poster, discussion guide and reference manual.
  • Jiggasha Replication Training Package (in production) This training package has been field-tested and is now under revision. It includes two videos and comprehensive IPC/C materials. It is currently being translated into Bangla.
  • India: Heart to Heart
    This TV series is under development with the Medical Communications Network. The series is targeted to health care providers in Asia and will cover reproductive healthy issues.
  • Nepal Counseling Video (in production)
    This is a collaboration between JHU/PCS and AVSC for the National Family Planning Counseling Training Program.
  • Nepal Radio Communication Project
    This project includes a national radio soap opera called Cut Your Coat According to Your Cloth and a radio series targeted at health workers.
  • Philippines Youth Videos (In production)
    The Foundation for Adolescents (FOA), with technical assistance from JHU/PCS, has produced six videos on adolescent health and sexuality. Discussion guides are being developed to help teachers/facilitators use the videos.

Latin America Division

  • Hablemos en Confianza manual** (in Spanish)
    This is the third edition of a regional IPC/C manual with five videos and a video guide. The first chapter of the manual is available on-line on the JHU/CCP web site (http://www.charm.net/^ccp/latin.html) and PCS plans to make the entire manual available on the Internet via ftp. The printed manual and videos will be available soon.
  • An adult learning curriculum and a special rural training curriculum are also in production.

Media/Materials Clearinghouse

  • Family Planning TV Spots around the World** (video) 26 min.
    22 TV spots that promote family planning from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the New Independent States.
  • Gather [French version]** (video) 19 min. In English with French subtitles
    The Zimbabwe GATHER counseling training video originally done in 1993 with French subtitles.
  • Okey Si Ma am** (video) 106 min. In Tagalog
    This video, originally broadcast on Philippine TV, is the story of a young teacher who uses unorthodox teaching methods to teach her class about the environment, family planning and other issues. Produced in conjunction with the Enter-Educate Foundation.
  • What’s New/Que Hay de Nuevo/Quoi de Neuf: Issue #1 (August 1995)
    The Media/Materials Clearinghouse newsletter for sharing materials which promote family planning and related health issues. The next issue (now in production) will be on flipcharts.

Near East Division

  • Female Genital Mutilation POPLINE records distribution
    In cooperation with the Research, Action and Information Network for the Bodily Integrity of Women (RAINBO), the Near East Division and POPLINE will disseminate POPLINE records on FGM to organizations and national FGM task forces throughout Africa and the Near East. This information may also be made available via the Internet.
  • Morocco FP Demonstration Kit
    A new family planning demonstration kit has been developed, including cue cards and sample contraceptives. In French and Arabic.
  • Oman IPC/C Curriculum
    An IPC/C curriculum for TOT and regional training was developed in Arabic and English.
  • Turkey Counseling Training Video (In production)
    The Kaynak counseling training video and training manual are almost complete. The video will be subtitled into English this year and the set will be available for distribution.

NIS Division

  • Laminated Color Cue Card set**
    A set of 8 cue cards on low-dose pill, injectables, condom, voluntary female sterilization, IUD, symptothermal method, withdrawal and LAM. They are in Russian and are designed for health care providers. Cost: $3.60/set or $.45/each.
  • Informational/motivational videos
    Two videos are being developed for educating women and youth in schools and in clinics.

Research and Evaluation Division

  • Qualitative Data Sets from Kenya and Usbekistan
    The Usbek data set is a transcript of focus group discussions held in Tashkent. The Kenya data set is the transcript of 160 observed counseling sessions. Each set includes the transcript file, technical reports and background materials. The Uzbek data set is $25 and the Kenya data set is $30.
  • Tools to Assess Family Planning Counseling: Observation and Interview
    This book, published in April 1995, contains a set of assessment tools designed to help program managers improve the quality of family planning counseling. Cost: $5.00

Training Division

  • Advances in Family Health and Social Communication Workshop
    An upcoming workshop in Bangladesh, February 24-March 7, 1996.
  • Continuing Education Newsletter (in production)
    A soon-to-be-published newsletter for alumni of the JHU/CCP Advances workshops.
  • SCOPE
    Versions of SCOPE now exist for Nepal, Uttar Pradesh, Bangladesh, Philippines, East Java (Indonesia), Turkey (English and French), Egypt (English and Arabic), Ghana, Zimbabwe, Peru (Spanish). Under development are Ethiopia and Kenya. Support materials are also under development.
